For the seventh year in a row, Methodist Health System has been honored with the Nebraska Safest Companies award with distinction by the National Safety Council. It’s the NSC Nebraska Chapter's highest award.

This award is for having a Labor Workers Disability Index (LWDI) 50 percent better than the industry standard for General Medical Surgical Hospitals, established by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The LWDI score for all general medical
surgical hospitals is 5.9, and Methodist scored 2.3 for 2018. Safest Company is based on a score of 50 percent better than industry LWDI.

The award is also based on Methodist’s rate
for Days Away Restricted or Transfer (DART). In this category, the score for all general medical surgical hospitals is 1.3, while our score was .02 for 2018. Again, Safest Company is based on a score of 50 percent better than industry DART.

Methodist’s award is with distinction because we maintained a better than 50 percent rate in both LWDI and DART. We also have seen a reduction in injuries, going from 202 in 2016, to 134 in 2017, and then 116 in 2018. Our Total Cases of Days Away Restricted or Transfer (DART) has reduced from 45 in 2016, to 28 in 2017, and just 9 in 2018.

All health system affiliate employees have worked extremely hard at providing The Meaning of Care to our patients and their families while also keeping the total number of employee injuries below 60 percent of the industry average.
