Changes in the health care environment have dramatically decreased the amount of funding available to hospitals, making the need for charitable giving more important than ever.

The Jennie Edmundson Foundation has been dedicated to helping Jennie Edmundson Hospital fulfill its mission "To improve the quality of life by caring for the body and mind."

The Jennie Edmundson Foundation supports programs that benefit our patients and their families, our employees and students, and the communities we serve in Council Bluffs and southwest Iowa. The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, which works with hospital employees, Jennie Edmundson Volunteer Services and other area residents to determine how the Foundation can help most effectively.

Our Programs

The Jennie Edmundson Foundation, through generous gifts from our community, is committed to funding the following hospital programs and services:

Family Resource Center
The Family Resource Center dispenses educational material to patients, their families, and to the community. The Family Resource staff attends and provides information at community health fairs and screenings. Additionally, the staff from the Family Resource Center provides compassionate support to grieving children in the community with their Memory Bag Program.

Cancer Registrar
JEH Foundation has committed funds for a cancer registrar. This person’s focus is three-fold. Tumor registry provides data to state and national registries which is used to track outcomes and to assure compliance with national standards of care. JEH Cancer Center uses an integrated model of care which offers its patients a coordinated team approach to evaluation, treatment and follow-up; the cancer registrar is integral in coordinating all these parties to attend weekly meetings to discuss new and ongoing patient concerns. The registrar also serves as communication hub for the patient to collect and communicate pertinent information.

Breast Health Center
Providing services for all breast health concerns, the staff of the Breast Health Center has committed to achieving consistently high levels of care. The Breast Health Center has as its goal to deliver a diagnosis within one week or sooner. Along with a diagnosis they provide all the information and support possible.

Medibus
This free service transports patients to our facilities to receive needed diagnosis and treatment. The Medibus is operated by a trained professional and is equipped with an electric wheelchair lift.

Employee Crisis Connection
This fund was established to provide for the emergency needs of employees who find themselves facing an unexpected or catastrophic financial hardship.

Spirit of Courage Weekend
This weekend-long event serves as the largest fund raising effort for the Jennie Edmundson Foundation. Specifically, money is raised for the Charitable Cancer Fund. This fund is used to provide financial assistance to JEH Cancer Center patients in their time of need. This fund has helped under-insured patients with co-pays and deductibles; it has also paid for the entire treatment for others.
