The Oncology Research Department coordinates the participation of Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center patients in cooperative group, industry, national and international research studies.
Studies focus on helping determine whether promising treatment approaches should become a new standard of care. Investigations may center on a new drug, new approaches to surgery or radiation or new combinations of treatments to improve patient outcomes. In addition to closely supervising each study, members of the Oncology Research Department work closely with each patient's physician to determine whether that patient meets the study's criteria for participation.
At Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center, 9 percent of eligible patients are trial participants, far exceeding the national average of 2 to 3 percent.
